L'Étranger (2025)
Algiers, 1938.
Meursault, a quiet and unassuming man in his early thirties, attends his mother’s funeral without shedding a tear. The next day, he begins an affair with his colleague Marie, and soon falls back into his daily routine. But his mundane existence is disrupted by his neighbour, Raymond Sintès, who draws Meursault into his shady dealings. Until, on a scorching hot day, a fateful incident takes place on the beach… When Meursault appears in court, he seems to be judged not so much for his actions as for his emotionless demeanour. Can a man be sentenced to death for not crying at his mother’s funeral?
L’Étranger is based on Albert Camus’s world-famous 1942 novel, one of the best-selling French novels of all time. The book was adapted for the screen by François Ozon (Swimming Pool), with the approval and supervision of Camus’s daughter.
