Pottenkijkers: Trans/masc Night: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang + The Aggressives
On the 2nd of March Pottenkijkers is back at De Uitkijk with a special evening focussed on trans/masculinity. At this screening we explore masculinity in our broader community, be it by butches, trans dykes, our trans brothers, or beyond. Throughout history, members of the LGBTQ+ community found different ways and words to define their masculinity and their identity, something that has evolved over time, often related to the tools at hand in our society. The name 'Pottenkijkers' might not be applicable for some of the people we are about to watch, but the exploration of gender identity and masculinity is shared and inherently part of many queer, trans and lesbian experiences.
On March 2nd, we are screening the short documentary kiss kiss bang bang (2025) by Amsterdam director Ollie Launspach and The Agressives (2005) by Daniel Pebble.
In kiss kiss bang bang, a love portrait made from home videos, photos, diaries, audio recordings, and interviews, director Ollie Launspach explores the impact of his transition on his girlfriend Sterre Mulder. While he tries to understand her emotional world, the chaos in his own mind slowly unfolds.
The intimate documentary The Agressives follows the lives of six queer people over the course of five years starting in 1999. Through their experiences, the documentary explores gender, sexuality, race and class. The documentary shows a moment in time where the main characters all define their masculinity while (still) identifying as women. Their stance gives insight into the transphobia and stigma very much present in their lives. Most of them would later go in transition, after the filming of this documentary ended.
