On November 30, we bid farewell to our beloved special programmer Inass, who, after many years of dedicated service, celebrates her final evening at Filmtheater De Uitkijk.
For this special occasion, she will personally project Cinema Paradiso on 35mm film.
Be cautious: This screening contains Dutch subtitles.
Cinema Paradiso is a tender, nostalgic ode to the beauty of cinema, the craft of analog projection, and the magic of watching films together.
The story takes place in a small Sicilian village shortly after World War II, where a mischievous young boy becomes utterly fascinated by the local movie theater. Despite the rules and the fire hazards, he repeatedly sneaks into the projection booth, mesmerized by the projectionist’s work. What begins as curiosity grows into a lifelong passion when he is eventually taught the craft himself. He grows up to become a filmmaker and leaves for the wider world, only to return thirty years later to a hometown that is no longer the same…
During Inass’s final shift as a true, old-school arthouse cinema projectionist on Sunday, November 30, we’ll be screening the film on 35mm — to once again experience the magic of the film reel spinning, the light hitting the screen, and a theater full of people moved together as one.
