A year of cinema, brought together: to celebrate the new year, we present a selection of films that shaped and coloured the film landscape of 2025 from January 15 to 25.
Babygirl is an erotic thriller about the successful CEO Romy (Nicole Kidman), who risks her career and family when she begins an affair with a young intern (Harris Dickinson). The film is written and directed by Halina Reijn for the acclaimed American production company A24. Romy (Nicole Kidman) is professionally successful, has a loving husband (Antonio Banderas), and is a devoted mother. Her carefully structured life is thrown off balance when she meets the audacious intern Samuel (Harris Dickinson). As she gradually relinquishes control, Romy discovers more about herself and her own intimate desires. But how much control is she willing to give up? Halina Reijn set out to make a film about self-love and embracing all layers of yourself, “including the darker sides.” Babygirl premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where Nicole Kidman won the award for Best Actress.
